Atlanta Headache Specialists
Compassionate and expert care in management of our patients and their headache disorders
Atlanta Headache Specialists is a division of Panda Neurology that focuses on evaluating and treating headaches for children, adolescents and adults. Our goal is to provide compassionate and expert care in management of our patients and their headache disorders. We are dedicated to caring for our patients with migraine, tension headache, post-concussive headache, cluster headache and a multitude of other headache disorders.
As part of your evaluation, you will meet with a provider who will determine possible underlying causes of your headache and pain. Your evaluation will include a history and physical examination, lifestyle analysis, including the foods you eat, sleep habits, exercise habits, stressors, as well as review family genetics. This evaluation may prompt additional testing including blood work and neuroimaging.
It is important to know that headaches and their triggers are as unique as the people experiencing them, and we tailor our treatment on a case by case basis. Treatment for headaches include recommendation for lifestyle changes, naturopathic treatments, medications, Botox and Nerve Block injections, and other complementary services.
Our team of physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners is led by Dr. Frank Berenson, one of only 3 physicians in the state of Georgia who is boarded in Headache Medicine. Dr. Berenson has been providing care to headache sufferers for the past 25 years, and is involved in multiple clinical research trials related to headache disorders.
We look forward to working with you and your family and helping you achieve relief from your headache.
Botox/Dysport for Migraine Headaches
Botox injections for headaches are usually recommended after several oral medications for headache prevention have been ineffective. The treatment consists of injections given into small muscles in the forehead, temples, back of the head and neck, and across the upper shoulders.
Botox for Spasticity
Botox injections are usually recommended when a child’s muscle tone interferes with functional movements or affects the caregiver’s ability to care for the child. The medication temporarily weakens tight muscles allowing the weak muscles to be strengthened through therapy and home exercise programs.
Nerve Blocks are injections of anesthetic agent selectively to nerves or the face, head or neck to decrease pain input into the brain and relieve headaches.
The Infusion Center at Atlanta Headache Specialists is designed for the management of acute migraine headaches with the use of intravenous (IV) medication and fluids in the office.
Migraines are a common reason for visits to the emergency room (ER). Patients that visit the ER, experience migraines that are often more severe, unresponsive to home rescue medications, and are lasting for a longer period of time. All of these features make these migraine attacks more challenging to treat.
Atlanta Headache Specialists offers IV medications in the office setting to provide management of acute migraines in a controlled setting, without incurring the expense and time related to ER visits. Drug classes and agents used include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, anitemetics, and at times, Magnesium or sodium valproate. In addition, IV Fluids are given for hydration.

Our staff specializes in epilepsy, headaches, concussion, sleep disorders, cerebral palsy, neurodevelopmental disorders, neuromuscular disease, and ADHD.
